    Civil Engineering at Washington State University

    Cesar Bedolla-Hurtado of Wenatchee, Washington is a junior at Washington State University as well as a 2nd time recipient of the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship. He is pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, with a minor in Mathematics. He is the President for the Society of Latino Engineers and Scientists in addition to Vice-President of the American Society of Civil Engineers. His inspiration to pursue civil engineering happened on a field trip to the local dam while attending elementary school. Since then, he has wanted to be at the forefront of innovating design and construction of massive structures essential for society. On what the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship means to him, "This scholarship award will only propel me further towards my civil engineering degree and my dreams of one day having a successful career." For extracurricular activities, Cesar enjoys cooking, baking, participating in intramural sports, hiking, running, and welding. Cesar looks forward to a future where he can use his creative and critical thinking skills to help growing cities expand and improve their infrastructure.

    Construction Engineering Management at Oregon State University

    Isaac Colton of North Powder, Oregon, is a senior attending Oregon State University who will graduate with a degree in Construction Engineering Management in June of 2022. He is currently a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at OSU, and has held leadership positions such as AGR Intra-mural coordinator, network chairperson, and executive committee scholarship chairman. Isaac says of the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship, “It can help in empowering my academic and career goals by giving me more time to study, gain knowledge, and secure better grades.” He is a lover of sports, and in his spare time enjoys skiing, golfing, and spending time with his family.

    Operator Apprentice at International Union of Operating Engineers

    Ethan Crowley of Newberg, Oregon is an Operator Apprentice working towards acceptance in the Local 701 International Union of Operating Engineers and a 2nd time recipient of the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship. He is currently spending the summer doing an internship for Ness Campbell Crane. In high school, Ethan was a part of Tiger Manufacturing, a student-run for profit machine shop. His teacher commented that Ethan is his go-to student when the job needs to be done right. Ethan expressed his appreciation for the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship, “The scholarship would allow me to kick start my future career goal. I want to leave a positive mark on the construction industry.”

    Construction Engineering Technology at Montana State University

    Gage Gessner of Puyallup, Washington is a freshman enrolled at Montana State University pursuing a degree in Construction Engineering Technology with the goal to improve the hands-on knowledge he has gained while working with a variety of Seattle-based construction firms. He is a member of the Honors College and the men’s hockey team. His interests outside of construction are hunting, fishing, restoring classic cars, and various sports. On the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship Gage says, “Scholarships like this one give me the chance to give back to people who have already given me so much.”

    Gannon Holland of Coos Bay, Oregon, is a sophomore at Oregon State University pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. He was driven to this career path by his grandfather, father, and high school shop teacher who had an impact on him as a child and young adult. Gannon is also a cadet in the Air Force ROTC involved in drill team and color guard. Additional to construction and the Air Force, he is interested in sports of all kinds, fishing, hiking, and family time. Gannon says, “It has been my dream of mine to be an engineer and officer in our nation’s military since I was young, and I cannot wait to pursue the opportunities available to me. Thanks in part to the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship Fund.”

    Construction Engineering Management at Oregon State University

    Zachary Jenkins of Sherwood, Oregon is a sophomore at Oregon State University pursuing a degree in Construction Engineering Management as well as a resident volunteer firefighter with the Corvallis Fire Department. He lives full time at the station and works a 24 on 72 off schedule. He has been a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and the OSU Honor Roll, and was an Oregon Scholar Athlete Finalist in 2018. His interests include fly fishing and football. On the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship he says, “I’m extremely grateful to everyone who has taken any role in this scholarship fund, and I’m very excited about the opportunity this scholarship presents."

    Construction Management at Washington State University

    Grace Jane Lium of Bothell, Washington, is a junior enrolled at Washington State University pursuing a degree in Construction Management with a minor in Business Administration. She hopes to use this to become a leader in field engineering for a large-scale general contractor. Additional to school she is the ASCM Treasurer, ASC Member, Pi Beta Phi Chapter Member, and a Junior Softball Little League World Series Volunteer. Grace plays a variety of sports, enjoys cooking, and occasionally does home renovation projects with her father. Regarding the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship she says, “I am a first-generation college student and admire those who have successfully completed degrees. The Schweiger Memorial Scholarship will be investing in my future, and the future of all women in the construction industry.”

    Parker Mills of Salem, Oregon is a sophomore in Oregon State University pursuing a degree in Construction Engineering Management. He was inspired by an architect visiting his classroom in elementary to pursue construction and design. Outside of school he loves outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, and snowboarding, as well as indoor activities like painting and cooking. He is currently the tournament director of the Oregon State Bass Fishing club and represents OSU in the large tournaments. Of the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship he says, “I think the best benefit of this scholarship would not necessarily be paying for classes, but for learning opportunities.”

    Elsa Moreno-Rangel of Corvallis, Oregon is a sophomore at Oregon State University and 2nd time recipient of the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship pursuing a degree in Construction Engineering Management. She has a passion for the development and wellbeing of low income and rural communities, with emphasis on accessibility and sustainability. Moreno-Rangel wants to inspire other women and youth-at-risk to consider pursuing a career in construction. She has a long list of hobbies and additional interests including OSU Design-Build Team, OSU Women’s Choir, and being a counselor for youth development. On receiving the scholarship, she says, “I can also give back and make a change in my community by motivating and supporting students to continue with their higher education in the same way in which Schweiger Memorial Scholarship Fund is motivating students to attain their goals.”

    Ashley Regnier of Gresham, Oregon, is an apprentice in the Local 701 Operating Engineers Union, as well as a full-time mom to a teenage son. Her goal is to be the employee everyone comes to for advice on how to navigate any particular project or dilemma that comes up on the job. Outside of work and her son, she enjoys riding bikes, camping, hiking and photography. On receiving the scholarship Regnier says, “I believe the wider my experience, the better my chances of true success in this program and trade.”

    Stormy Waggoner of Loveland, Colorado, is a freshman enrolled in Montana State University pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering with a minor in Hispanic Studies. She currently works as an excavation laborer and has plans to join Women in Engineering and Engineers Without Borders. Outside of work and school Stormy enjoys paddle boarding, hiking, making connections with new people, and traveling. On receiving the scholarship Stormy says, “I could take the time that I would be working and use it to make those connections, expand my knowledge and experience in the civil engineering field, and volunteer.”

    Amber Weidenbach of Ellensburg, Washington is a mother, veteran, and apprentice in the Local 701 Operating Engineers Union. She plans on using the education and experience the scholarship will help provide by promoting sustainable, innovative methods of design, construction, and engineering. She plans to volunteer in the future with an organization like Engineers Without Borders, and has outside interests of gardening, personal finance, water recreational activities, and quality time with the family.
