  • Anthony Braunstein

    Mechanical Engineering at University of Portland

    Anthony Braunstein of Portland, Oregon is entering his junior year at the University of Portland pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering and concurrently working toward a commercial vessel captain license. He is spending his summer with an internship at Advanced American Construction. Anthony was awarded the University of Portland Success Award, President’s Scholarship, and National Honor Society his junior and senior years in high school. Growing up on the Columbia River, he hopes to pursue a career in the maritime sector focusing on naval architecture. He enjoys golfing, skiing, water sports, and classic car restoration. On receiving the scholarship, Anthony says, “It would be a privilege to join the past recipients and carry on the generosity of the Schweiger legacy.”

  • Kelso Cosgrove

    Kelso, OR
    Mechanical Engineering at Arizona State University

    Kelso Cosgrove of Kelso, Washington is entering his sophomore year at Arizona State University pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is a 2-time recipient of the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship. In high school, Kelso was awarded the prestigious United States Presidential Scholars. He hopes to use his education in an engineering related field by helping to design products that can better the environment using new technology. Kelo’s passion is the automobile industry, he enjoys building cars and learning the details of mechanical work. Kelso remarked that witnessing the positive impact on himself and the other recipients has made him appreciate the networking opportunities and sense of community that the Schweiger Memorial scholarship provides.

  • Flora Davis

    1st Term Apprentice at Pacific NW Carpenters' Institute

    Flora Davis of Warm Springs, Oregon is a 1st term Pile Driver Apprentice studying at the Pacific NW Carpenters Institute. She is a member of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and currently works for Advanced American Construction. She is focused on furthering her education and learning the trade to become successful in the construction industry. On receiving the scholarship, Flora says, “This scholarship I firmly believe would not only benefit myself, but my daughter as well by furthering my education and career, taking classes, and gaining as much experience and knowledge as I possibly can.”

  • Thomas Denman

    3rd Term Apprentice at Operating Engineers Local 701

    Thomas Denman of Washington is a 3rd term Operating Apprentice working towards Journeyman studying at the Operating Engineers Local 701 and currently working for NessCampbell Crane & Rigging. Mike Teeter of NessCampbell said that Thomas leads by setting good examples, as well as stepping up to be someone that other young employees can look up to and give guidance. He loves being an operator and looks forward to graduating in August of 2024. Thomas enjoys camping, fishing, target shooting, cycling, snowboarding, and drag racing. Thomas expressed that, “I’m a hard-working father trying to provide the best lifestyle for my family. The scholarship would truly be a blessing for my family.”

    6th Term Apprentice at Pacific NW Carpenters' Institute

    Aaron Enyeart of Albany Oregon is a 6th term Carpenter Apprentice working towards journeyman studying at the Pacific NW Carpenters Institute and is currently working at the Harver Company. The General Forman says Aaron shows up early, stays late, and always has a great attitude and a smile that is contagious. Aaron hopes to become a leader in the construction industry and inspire young people. On receiving the scholarship, Aaron says, “To be a part of something that's bigger than myself, that has a greater purpose would be an honor.”

  • Finley Harrington

    Civil Engineering at Oregon State University

    Finley Harrington of Portland, Oregon is entering his junior year at Oregon State University pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. This summer he has an internship with Advanced American Construction and completed an internship last year with the USACE working on dredge, dam, and jetty engineering projects. Finley’s teacher Melanie Hammericksen says, “Finley is one of, if not the hardest working individuals I have had the pleasure to teach. He is not only a very kind human, but hard working, compassionate, trustworthy and dedicated to getting the job done.” Finley expressed that the scholarship would contribute to his professional growth by allowing him to invest in resources and tools that are essential for success in the construction and engineering industry.

    Civil Engineering at University of Arizona

    Kellen Hartford of Wilsonville, Oregon is entering his sophomore year at the University of Arizona pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. This summer Kellen has an internship with Perlo Construction. In high school, Kellen received twelve scholar athlete awards and was named team captain in three varsity sports. His goal is to leave an impact and set a standard in the construction and engineering industry by eventually owning his own company. On receiving the scholarship Kellen says, “This scholarship could do so much for my education and financial situation after college.”

  • Michael Ivezic

    7th Term Apprentice at Pacific NW Carpenters' Institute

    Michael Ivezic of Portland, Oregon is a 7th term Pile Driver and Diver Apprentice studying at the Pacific NW Carpenters Institute. He is a United States Veteran decorated with a Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Michael volunteers at his local parish and serves on the leadership team for Trail Life, an organization which teaches young men skills for survival, service and character development. Michael expressed how grateful he was for the opportunity to be considered for this scholarship and the potential it holds for his educational and career growth.

    Austin Johnson of Oregon City, Oregon is a 1st term Operator Apprentice working towards Journeyman in the Operating Engineers Local 701. He is a 2-time scholarship recipient and currently works for Advanced American Construction. Austin’s goals of becoming a Journeyman crane operator include the opportunity for growth, continued learning, and eventually teaching and mentoring apprentices. Austin enjoys spending time with his family, professional sports, and automobiles. On receiving the scholarship Austin says, “Applying and becoming a recipient of the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship would really be a dream come true.

    Construction Engineering Management at Oregon State University

    Aliiloa Kaeo-Wailehua of Medford Oregon is entering his senior year at Oregon State University pursuing a degree in Construction Engineering Management. He hopes to become a project manager towards a successful career in the construction industry. He is a member of the Hawaiian Cultural Club at Oregon State University and enjoys playing in intramural sports year-round. Aliiloa expressed how the Schweiger Memorial scholarship would be life changing.

    Jeffrey Kemnitz of Gresham, Oregon is a 2nd term Operator Apprentice working towards Journeyman in the Operating Engineers Local 701. He currently works at Advanced American Construction and expects to graduate August of 2024. As an HDR Mechanic, Jeffrey hopes that through the rest of his career in the construction industry that he will pass on opportunities, positive attitude, knowledge, stories, and understanding that he has experienced. For enjoyment, Jeffrey is an avid guitar player and amateur meat smoker. On receiving the scholarship, Jeffrey says, “I would be ever grateful to not only be closer to the AAC family, but I would be ever grateful to be able to make my path to becoming a journeyman just a little less stressful and easier for my family to grow as we move forward.”

  • Alexxis Lee

    1st Term Apprentice at Operating Engineers Local 701

    Alexxis Lee of Portland, Oregon is a 1st term Operator Apprentice working towards Journeyman in the Local 701 International Union of Operating Engineers and expects to graduate in the fall of 2026. She ranked 6th for her application into the apprenticeship program out of 400 people. Alexxis is also the top recipient for the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship. She currently works for McDonald Excavating and was highly recommended by her peers. Alexxis volunteers with her grandma Arlene Kimura, president of the Hazelwood Neighborhood Association, for various events she puts on for the community like neighborhood clean ups, movies in the parks, and many various outreach programs. Alexxis says about the scholarship, “I can't believe that there are so many people willing to help people like me who are just trying to succeed and change the course of my family's life for the better.”

    6th Term Apprentice at Pacific NW Carpenters' Institute

    Philip Martinez of Wellsville Kansas is a 6th term Pile Driver and Diver Apprentice studying at the Pacific NW Carpenters Institute. He is a United States Veteran decorated with an Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Longevity of Service. He currently works at Advanced American Construction and says that every job is an exciting new challenge that grows his skillset allowing him to be more successful in the construction industry. Philip enjoys cooking, fishing, and spending time with his dog. On receiving the scholarship, Philip says, “At the end of each day I am proud to do what I do and would be proud to be recognized as a recipient of this award.”

    Construction Engineering Management at Oregon State University

    Macy Montgomery of Beaverton, Oregon is entering her junior year at Oregon State University studying for a degree in Construction Engineering Management and will graduate June of 2025. Macy has long term goals of working with homeowners to build their dream homes. She is spending this summer with an internship at Perlo Construction. Macy is an avid horse rider and was crowned St. Paul Rodeo Princess for 2022 which entailed traveling throughout Oregon speaking publicly about the rodeo and acting as role model to hundreds of younger children. Macy said, “With this scholarship, I will be able to pursue my dreams of working in the construction engineering field with unwavering focus from genuine support from the industry I am eager to work in.”

  • Kelly Strobeck

    Architecture at University of Nevada

    Kelly Strobeck of Newberg, Oregon is entering her sophomore year at the University of Nevada pursuing a degree in Architecture. She was awarded Honors College Academic Dean's List- 2022, and National Honors Society Member 2020-2022. Kelly was a Newberg High School cheerleader and 14-year competitive dancer. This summer she has an internship with NessCampell Crane & Rigging. Michelle Turk, PHD and teacher at the university, said that Ms. Strobeck ranks in the top 1% of students she has taught in the past five years. On being a scholarship recipient Kelly said, “Receiving this award would ultimately be the greatest honor to myself and my family who respect it so strongly.”

    Civil Engineering w/ Minor in Hispanic Studies at Montana State University

    Stormy Waggoner of Loveland, Colorado, is entering her Senior year at Montana State University pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering with a minor in Hispanic Studies and is a 3- time recipient of the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship. She has been on the Dean’s list for five semesters and had the opportunity to study abroad in Valencia, Spain. Outside of work and school Stormy enjoys paddle boarding, hiking, making connections with new people, and traveling. On receiving the scholarship Stormy says, “This scholarship has impacted me and so many others in an abundance of ways. If I were to receive this for my last year, I would be so thankful and would make the most of the opportunities provided..”
